SOLSC 10/31 The Forest

The leaves shake, their long leafy tendrils uncurling in an attempt to latch on, to pull you close. It may not seem like it, but the forest is always moving. Small movements invisible to the naked eye are what allows the environment to grow. A rustle in the leaves; grass as it sways in the breeze, springing back up after your foot leaves the ground. Thorns reach out, searching, snagging on bare skin and ripping into the fabric of your clothes, desperate to connect with something living, to take part in your movements. Branches snap back into places after being moved aside, pine needles and leaves falling to the dark ground. Goat heads reach up to grab unknown passerby, unnoticed as they latch onto fur and fabric. The leaves whisper, a cool, crisp breeze heavy with the promise of snow. Spiraling around the forest, brushing the tops of trees and then diving to the ground, creating ripples in still water and a path through the dense undergrowth.
Unseen eyes watch you, their owner hidden in the shadows, sliding through the pools of darkness with a predator's grace: silent and deadly. They are in the trees, looking through the branches, down at the scene below, looking down on you. Everything is silent. Here peace surrounds everything, falling down on the trees like invisible snow. Muffling everything but the wind.

  1. That is really pretty. I loved the writing especially "Here peace surrounds everything, falling down on the trees like invisible snow."

  2. And now I'm freaked out by the woods...But really, that was both super beautiful and super creepy... "Thorns reach out, searching, snagging on bare skin and ripping into the fabric of your clothes, desperate to connect with something living, to take part in your movements." It feels so true.

  4. I agree with Kam, because of this the woods seem awesome and then plain creepy, but your ideas rich and you didn't use words like cool or hot or pretty which was really nice
