occasional poetry

Mythology

They bend over the table
Studying the parchment that lays before them
Reading the symbols that look so similar and yet, are so different
Staring at the pictures, lost in thought

They tell stories, these unfamiliar letters
Stories about war, famine and heroes
Gods and monsters, history and fighting

The pictures too
Temples and pyramids
Buildings of impossible size created out of marble
Mosaics that line an entire floor
Representing stories long since forgotten

These pictures and writtings are all we have left of history
Of stories that we can no longer remember
Of entire civilizations and cultures
Things that can only be discovered through these writings
