SOLSC 7/31 Random

I have always loved stories. I love the way words sound in my mind, the way a few sentences can be turned into something beautiful. I love how my mind wanders, thinking about what or what could have happened even after I have finished. To me, words have always been something amazing. Seeing letters turn into words and those words transform into sentences. Watching silently as those sentences weave a whole other world. My favorite of these worlds, are the ones I create myself: the ones that I dream about.
One of my favorite feelings in the world is when my mind is wandering, thinking about everything and nothing. When reality seems like a dream. When everything real is far, far away and I stumble onto ideas of what ifs. I love just being able to let my mind wader, unconsciously navigation the labyrinth inside my head sifting its way through my ideas and memories. Jolting awake whenever remember something important, or imagine something so incredibly important or interesting that I’m raised from my ide minded stupor. Or in other words a very deep technique of procrastination.

SOLSC 6/31 Reading

I read... a lot. I love to surround myself with words and stories. Traveling to distant worlds, when reality is dark and unforgiving. Leaving all of my problems behind as I imagine far away mountains, their jagged peaks surrounded by clouds. Riverbeds, the soft trickling sound of the creek as it winds down to the ocean, traveling through desolate wastelands or dark forests.
I love being able to loose myself in a character finding comfort and strength in them when I can no longer do so on my own. Books give me a place where I feel like I belong. If I could, I would read for hours and never stop. Theres just something about begin to escape reality, if only for a moment and losing yourself within paper and ink. One of my favorite quotes is "Books are proof that humans can do magic." I cannot remember the author of that quote but it has stayed in my head since I first read it, if only because I believe it to be true. Books are what keep me from feeling alone, I can wrap the words and tales that they weave around me like a blanket.

SOLSC 5/31 Snow Poem

I was really bored, distracted and random today so I wrote a poem about snow... (its kinda short and weird)

First one, then two,
I watch as the tiny crystals spiral down from the clouds
Three and four,
they're falling fast, onto the on branches and roofs
Five and six,
Slowly, they land on the streets, coating the sidewalks
Seven and eight
as they turn my city into a winter wonderland.
Nine and ten
Cars create new tracks in the snowy roads.
Eleven and twelve
Already the chilly wind burns my lungs
Thirteen and fourteen
My breath is visible in the cold air
Fifteen and sixteen
As snowflakes land on my outstretched palms
Seventeen and eighteen
the crystals melt on my finger tips
Nineteen and twenty
creating small pools of water in my hand, as even more land on my shoulders

SOLSC 4/31 Book log

Ah, the art of procrastination. The ability to put off a week long assignment until two hours before it is do. For literary arts every person reads a book a week and blogs about it, (in other words this is my slice for today).

This week, I read the Shadow Throne by Jennifer A Nielsen. It is the third and final book in the Ascendant Trilogy. The first book is the False Prince, the story of an orphaned thief, who is forced to become a pawn in ever present chessboard of politics and impersonate a long lost/dead prince after the real royal family is secretly murdered. All three books take place in the mythical world Carthia and describe a closely woven timeline. I really like the pace of this book and how there was always action; but, my absolute favorite part of the entire series was the politics and the secretes. The plot was always twisting, completely unpredictable and free moving, it was entertaining as wells as a fast read. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes tactics, politics and adventure.

SOLSC 3/31 Silence

Sometimes when I can't sleep, when the world seems to be so quiet and dark, I stare through my window, into the night sky. With my back pressed against the wall, everything seems to fall away as I watch the flickering street light, blinking at the shadows cast by the occasional car. Like the world, it is times like this when my mind is quietest, when it is the most peaceful. I've come to crave these moments of silence, relishing the surrounding darkness and listening to the leaves as they dance with the slight wind. I sit, arms around my knees looking up at the four high buildings that emerge from the ancient trees only a few blocks away. The buildings indistinguishable from the light sky, exept for a few lights that shine line stars. I like to watch as they go out. One by one. Then when the final light is switched out, a reminder to my far off self that I should be getting to bed, I find myself staring once again at the flickering street light. I remember reading somewhere that the human mind is attracted to movement. Maybe thats why my eyes always shift to the orange glow that bathes the street, without even seeming to. Everything here is just so peaceful, a world I never want to leave but know I must. To me, the silence is riveting, beautiful, mysterious and completely addicting. When I'm here, I never want to leave.

SOLSC 2/31 A Little Randomness From Me

I like the cold, I think its beautiful and mysterious. It is one of my favorite things in the world. The cold is fine. What I don't like is the wind. A invisible force that can cut through any material, given the time to do so. It is cruel, deadly and harsh, chilling to the very bone, capable of toppling trees and destroying homes. There is a difference between the cold and wind chill. One is quiet and comforting, soft and gentle, simple and kind. The other, impatient and immature, chaotic and clumsy, dangerous and threatening, like a toddler. Incapable of thinking things through, never standing still long enough to consider any consequences, thoughts going in a million directions incapable to focus in, unwilling to even try.

Normally, the cold is hardly noticeable. It follows the seasons, rising and dropping with each moon. Even with its peaceful nature it is deadly, deadly and beautiful. But that is understandable, there can be no light without at least a little darkness, but sometimes those shadows can grow. Wind is what makes the cold noticeable, its sharp needles probing into every living thing, sinking down to the very center to chill you from the inside out. That is the difference between the wind and the cold, whereas both are dangerous only one is cruel.

SOLSC 1/31 - The Wind

My name is Kendal and I like to draw. This year, I have studied Comparative Mythology and Metal Working. I am in eighth grade and really loathe introductions.

I don't know about most people, but I like the cold. Whether its snowy or sunny there has always been something quiet and peaceful about it. Like theres no one in the world but myself. How it seem to blanket everything, muffling the sounds of modern life so everything seems farther away. The cold creates a living dream and its in this weather where I like to let my mind wander thinking about nothing and everything all at the same time. Theres a beauty to it, letting the mind wander; unconsciously or consciously I think that everyones thoughts go a little amiss on a cold day. Sometimes I'll be walking down the hallways, not caring about the path my feet are on and I'll see someone else, their eyes sliding over the posters in our hall and I know that there in the same dreamlike state. The cold is relaxing, it has a way of sinking into you and making you forget all of your troubles. It makes you relaxed, your eyelids growing heavy. Like a spell it sinks under your skin, taking effect in a way that is both fast and incredibly slow, like the ticking of a clock. Tick, tock tick tock. You know your going under fast, and yet theres nothing you can do to fight it. Do you even want to fight it? The thing that is neither bad nor good only is. The thing that quiets you like waking up after sleeping in. To me, that is what the cold is: not bad or good, yes or no, something that cannot be defined in the dictionary only by yourself and yourself only.
