The Night Circus

The Night Circus
Erin Morgenstern

For my book of the week I read the Night Circus By Erin Morgenstern (It was Awesome!) anyone and EVERYONE should read it. Based in the 1800s this book is defiantly what I would call historical fantasy. Celia Bowen and Marco (Insert Last Name Here (I do not have a copy with me)) have been raised to  face off in a challenge of magical skill, creativity and endurance. But there are a few flaws with this particular challenge. For one: its a win or die situation, and riddled with hundreds of secrets. I LOVED this book it was filled with interesting plot twists and the characters were really realistic and defined. The only real problem that I had with this book, was that it was hard to tell how many days or years had gone by each chapter. But overall it was Great!

Oh, I also saw something about it being made into a movie!

Winterbirth
Brian Ruckley

Winterbirth by Brian Ruckley in a fictional world which is based off of war. In this five hundred paged book, war is everything. The genre is fantasy, but I would not consider this as an easy read, i often had to read certain paragraphs over at least once to understand certain aspects of the book. Told in a combination of first and third person, Winterbirth is the story of a brother and sister and their impossible race to safety; I say that the story is about them because in truth, the story is told in so many different perspectives and sides that the only relatable between any of them is that they all evolve around the stories told by the brother and sister. Although I really enjoyed the book and thought that the writing style was both intelligent and amazing, I had a hard time understanding it all. Whenever I read from a certain perspective, it was easy to understand the character and their surroundings, but many names were similar and it was hard to pick out which one it was. There were also so many characters, that that also became somewhat confusing by the end of the book. But overall I really liked the bold story and  the intelligent writing style. PS I would not recommend this book to any who feel un-comftorble about massacre, torture and death.

The Brothers Grimm

The Complete Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales
edited by Lily Owens

Most people remember stories like The Princess and the Frog or Cinderella as Disney movies dedicated to young children. What they don't know is that the basis of these stories were built off of the Brothers Grimm fairytales, which by measure are much more gruesome. The stories were every short and fast moving so it was sometimes confusing because of the writing style, some of the stories were also very similar and after a while it became somewhat easy to guess the plot. The genre of these stories are fiction, and they are written in a combination of old and modern English. The book is a little more than 650 pages and the font is quite small, but there are also some very interesting illustrations. I would recommend this book for readers who enjoy classics and are fine with having to read a paragraph over to understand it. Also, if you enjoy reading books about other fairytales or mythology, this would be a good book.
